Further information about the AA Awards:
This respected Association has awarded Northcote Manor a rating of 81% - one of the highest in North Devon.
The three stars classification concerns the accomodation and general status of the hotel. The AA denotes a 3 star hotel as "....hotels are usually of a size to support higher staffing levels, and a significantly greater quality and range of facilities than at the lower star classifications. Reception and the other public rooms will be more spacious and the restaurant will normally also cater for non-residents. All bedrooms will have fully en suite bath and shower rooms and offer a good standard of comfort and equipment, such as a hair dryer, direct dial telephone, toiletries in the bathroom. Some room service can be expected, and some provision for business travellers."
The two red rosettes denote that the AA regards the cuisine in the Manor House Hotel to be of a very high standard.Under the direction of Richie Herkes, head chef, and Cheryl King, house manager, the recent improvements have secured the AA 2 rosette recommendation. The AA state that "Only cooking of the highest national standard receives two or more rosettes. Menus will be imaginative; dishes should be accurately cooked, demonstrate well developed technical skills and a high degree of flair in their composition. Ingredients will be first-class, usually from a range of specialist suppliers, including local produce only if its quality is excellent. Most items - breads, pastries, pasta, petits fours - will be made in the kitchens, but if any are bought in, for example, breads, the quality will be excellent.
Further information about the Johansens Awards:
The latest award for Northcote Manor was the "Readers Award 2006". This is particularly special to the hotel as the award has been chosen by the general public who voted it their best hotel in the Condé Nast Johansen guide. To be chosen as a hotel that stands out from the rest by offering high quality and friendly service with delicious award winning cuisine means a lot to everyone at the hotel.
Stuart Johnson, Publishing Director, Great Britain & Ireland of Condé Nast Johansens said, " With a total of nine categories encompassing the diversity of the hotel industry, the Award Winners are a wonderful representation of the excellence to be found in the hotels of Great Britain and Ireland."
" The Most Excellent Country Hotel proved to be a close fought decision, with Northcote Manor Country Hotel taking the honors. All the independently owned hotels, who were nominated for awards by the users of Johansens Guide and the regional inspectors, make this accolade a doubly important endorsement of the integrity of the Guide and the outstanding achievements of the hotels."
